Ragazzo wins $1.107M Heritage Place Futurity

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Ragazzo won by a nose over stablemate Streakin Down on Saturday night in the $1.107 million Heritage Place Futurity, the most lucrative race of Remington Park's annual quarter horse meet.

Off at 12-1 odds, Ragazzo won for the third time in four starts - all at Remington Park - and highlighted a memorable night for trainer Eddie Willis of Caney, who saddled the top four finishers in the 350-yard Grace I race.

The all-Willis superfecta included The Hiway and Happy Trick.

Jockey Freddie Martinez rode Ragazzo, a 2-year-old Texas-bred son of Shazoom owned by Jorge Haddad of Seguin, Texas. Martinez and Haddad had never before won the Heritage Place Futurity, while Willis had won the event in 2007 with Southern Takes All.

Ragazzo paid $26.80, $11.60 and $7.

In the $200,000, Grade I Remington Park Championship, Separate Bet posted his third win in as many stakes attempts. The son of Separatist is trained by Paul Jones and was ridden by Cody Jensen in the 440-yard race.

As the 7-5 favorite, the 5-year-old California-bred gelding improved his career record to 11 wins in 23 starts, paying $4.80, $3.60 and $2.80. Separate Bet won $120,000 for the Weatherford partnership of Jimmy Harrel, Duane Harrel and JoAnn Adams, improving his career earnings to $635,113.

Separate Bet will receive an automatic berth into the $750,000 Champion of Champions race at Los Alamitos in December.
